On December 11, 2021, Officer Detrick Cooper, a six-year veteran of the Elizabethtown Police Department, was involved in a fatal shooting of Christopher Sterusky, 29, of Radcliff. During an investigation of a suspicious vehicle, Sterusky became uncooperative, attempted to re-enter his vehicle, and allegedly produced a knife, attempting to stab Officer Cooper. In response, Officer Cooper discharged his firearm, resulting in Sterusky’s death. Following department policy, Officer Cooper was placed on administrative leave for two weeks. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
