On April 16, 2019, Officer Devin Eaton fired 13 shots at an unarmed vehicle in New Haven, injuring passenger Stephanie Washington. Washington suffered multiple injuries, including spine and hip fractures. Eaton was charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, pleaded no contest, and was sentenced to probation and community service. The town of Hamden settled a lawsuit with Washington for approximately $1.1 million. Eaton resigned from the force in 2022.
