In September 2022, Deputy Devin Williams Jr. was charged with the murders of Maria and Benison Tran in Dublin, California. Williams allegedly used his service weapon to fatally shoot the couple in their home. Prior to the incident, the Trans had reported Williams’ threatening behavior, but no action was taken. Following the murders, an audit revealed that Williams was among 47 deputies who had failed psychological screenings, yet remained on duty. The victims’ family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the county, alleging negligence in addressing Williams’ behavior and psychological fitness.
