Over the past decade, the Ashland Police Department has faced several disciplinary actions involving its officers. Notable incidents include the 2005 case where Officers Bocook, Christian, Deerfield, and Bowling were implicated in misconduct allegations involving sexual relations with a female while on duty. These officers either resigned or were terminated following internal investigations. In 2023, Chief Gabe Edwards was placed on administrative leave due to allegations of misconduct, including misuse of official systems and inappropriate behavior. Additionally, former Officer Thomas Whitener filed a wrongful termination lawsuit in 2023, claiming retaliation for reporting Edwards’ misconduct. These cases highlight ongoing challenges within the department related to officer conduct and internal accountability.
