<br>I remember a friend of mine who just moved to town and needed a bed frame. He hadn’t bought a bed in years, he and his wife were really surprised of how expensive bed frames were. He is a handy person so he decided to make his own bed. He had all the tools he needed and sourced all the materials from Homedepot. The bed he made was strong and diy solar panels looked very nice but at the end of the day they did not save much money.

The enthusiasm behind building your own solar PV modules is good. You will learn about the depths of solar energy where most solar installers don’t venture. You will also be very familiar with your solar system since you built every part of it. Most importantly, the satisfaction of making the solar panels that will produce your energy will be huge. Making your own solar panels is an interesting project; however, if saving money is your motivation behind this diy solar panels endeavor, you are in the wrong track.

When you build your own solar panels at home or in your workshop, you do not have access to all the necessary equipment to build a long lasting solar panel. This is especially true when it comes to the encapsulation of the solar cells which will protect the fragile cells from moisture and dirt. The last is true even using a DIY solar panel kit from Amazon or ebay. The main argument is that solar PV modules are cheaper than ever before. With solar panels, with a 25-year warranty, ranging at $1-$2 per watt what is the sense in making your own panels at a cost (just materials) of over $4/watt.

So as my friend who made his own bed, you can be very proud of putting together your own solar panels. My friend and his wife were very happy with their bed and I am sure they will have it for years to come. You will have a great time making your own solar panels and you will definitely learn a lot. I am a big advocate of DIY projects but it is important to keep in mind that you are not always going to save money by doing it yourself.
