In 2000, Sergeant Duane E. Potts was terminated from the Davis County Sheriff’s Department following allegations including receiving a gratuity from a subordinate, inadequate staffing, and verbal abuse. The Career Services Council reversed his termination, reinstating him as a sergeant but reassigning him to court security. Potts resigned in 2001 and subsequently filed a lawsuit alleging due process violations, which was dismissed in 2009.
