    On August 20, 2023, Deputy Barbee was involved in an incident leading to charges of third-degree assault, false imprisonment, official oppression, and first-degree official misconduct. Following an investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Barbee was terminated from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office on November 6, 2023. In August 2024, he pleaded guilty to official oppression, a class 1 misdemeanor, resulting in a sentence of two years of unsupervised probation, two days in jail, 36 hours of community service, and court costs totaling $199.50.

Following an investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and other agencies, Barbee was terminated from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office on November 6, 2023. On August 13, 2024, he pleaded guilty to official oppression, a class 1 misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation, two days in jail, 36 hours of community service, and court costs totaling $199.50. As part of a plea agreement, other charges including assault and false imprisonment were dropped. During his probation, Barbee is barred from working in law enforcement.
