    In December 2017, then-Sgt. Edwin Bergeron was involved in an incident where he punched a handcuffed Black man, Kentdrick Ratliff, multiple times in the face during a booking room altercation. Despite video evidence of the excessive force, Bergeron was later promoted to Police Chief in 2019, leading to public outcry and calls for his resignation.
