In May 2020, Detective Eliezer Ramos fired a rubber bullet during a protest, striking LaToya Ratlieff in the face. Ratlieff suffered a broken eye socket, nerve damage, and a forehead gash requiring 20 stitches. A police investigation cleared Ramos of wrongdoing, stating he aimed at another individual when Ratlieff entered the line of fire. The city settled Ratlieff’s lawsuit for $2 million in December 2024.
