In June 2024, Deputy Eric G. Baptiste was involved in the restraint of inmate Rolin Hill, who died from asphyxia due to neck and torso compression. Baptiste, along with two other deputies, was charged with second-degree murder in January 2025. The incident led to his dismissal from the Sheriff’s Office following an independent review by the Virginia State Police.
