In February 2015, Officer Eric Parker was involved in an incident where he used excessive force against Sureshbhai Patel, a 57-year-old Indian man, during a morning walk. Patel was left partially paralyzed after being thrown to the ground. Parker was arrested on third-degree assault charges and faced termination. Patel filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city and the officers involved. The incident led to public outcry and discussions on police conduct and cultural competency training.
