In November 2019, Officer Salverda was terminated from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office for using county equipment for private employment, conducting private work during county time, insubordination, and dishonesty. An investigation revealed that he served legal papers for a private company 33 times while on duty and misrepresented the extent of this activity to his superiors. Following his termination, Salverda filed a $10 million wrongful termination claim against the county, alleging he was dismissed due to medical issues and complaints about safety conditions on the job.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
