Officer Erik Andersen was involved in multiple incidents of misconduct during his tenure with the Post Falls Police Department. In June 2004, he received a letter of counseling for inappropriate use of handcuffs during a stop of a bicyclist riding at night without lights. In January 2005, he was verbally reprimanded for inappropriate force during the arrest of Bradley Platt, who subsequently filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the city for injuries sustained during the arrest. Andersen was also suspended for three days for insubordination and retaliation against co-workers involved in internal investigations. In March 2006, he was accused of threatening a motorist with a Taser during a traffic stop, leading to his termination in May 2006. Andersen later filed a $500,000 tort claim against the city alleging wrongful termination.
