Officer Erik Andrade was terminated in September 2018 for violating the department’s social media policy. He posted racially derogatory comments and mocked NBA player Sterling Brown, who was subjected to excessive force by other officers in January 2018. Andrade’s posts undermined his credibility and ability to testify in court. Brown filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city, citing Andrade’s social media activity as evidence of a culture of misconduct within the department.
