In May 2022, Officer Ethan Hendrix, along with Officer Brandon Rogers, responded to a 911 call regarding a man, Jeremy Lee Thompson, in medical distress outside a Dollar General store. Despite Thompson clutching his chest and mouthing ‘help me,’ the officers arrested him for public intoxication without conducting a field sobriety test. Thompson was taken to the Geneva County Jail, where his condition worsened, leading to his death from a heart attack. A federal lawsuit alleges that the officers ignored Thompson’s serious medical needs, violating his civil rights. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages against the officers.
