    In August 2011, Sheriff Freedom Crawford was involved in a bar fight in Lewistown, Montana, where he threw a man through a window. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of assault, obstructing a peace officer, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. In March 2012, he received a 6-month suspended jail term, was fined $1,350, and ordered to pay over $2,600 in restitution. Additionally, he was required to write a letter of apology to the victim’s family, local law enforcement, and the Lewistown community. Despite calls for his resignation, Crawford initially refused to step down but eventually resigned in October 2014 following another incident where he was found sleeping on a sidewalk, suspected of being intoxicated.
