Officer Galen Nagel was terminated in September 2002 after a series of disciplinary issues, including being disrespectful to training personnel and making derogatory remarks about department administrators. Following a fitness-for-duty examination that deemed him unfit for duty, Nagel was dismissed. He appealed the termination, but the Civil Service Commission upheld the decision, and his petition for reinstatement was dismissed by the court in January 2004.
