In March 2023, Officer George Huff was involved in an incident where he allegedly used excessive force against 63-year-old Keith Erlandson, a homeless man with mental health issues. Huff reportedly struck Erlandson multiple times in the face while holding handcuffs, resulting in severe facial injuries that required medical attention. Following an internal investigation, Huff was terminated from the Bismarck Police Department in May 2023. He faced a misdemeanor simple assault charge and withdrew his appeal for reinstatement in August 2023.
