In 1984, Police Chief George Huston was found by the Maine Labor Relations Board to have violated labor laws by making coercive statements to dispatchers about their work schedules. He suggested that if dispatchers pursued a ‘4 and 3’ work schedule, they would be replaced by regular police officers. This was deemed to interfere with the free exercise of employee rights under the law.
