In 2012, Chief Heath Allred was removed from his position without a pre-termination hearing, allegedly due to his wife’s candidacy against Mayor James Richardson. Allred filed a lawsuit claiming violation of procedural due process rights. The court found that Allred had a continued interest in his employment and that his immediate removal without a hearing could constitute a deprivation of his rights. The case highlighted issues of political retaliation and due process within the department.
