In January 2010, Deputy Sheriff Jacob Michaelson, serving as a field training officer, repeatedly struck trainee Taysom’s knee using the common peroneal strike technique without legitimate training objectives. These actions caused Taysom significant knee pain, leading to her inability to complete required physical tests and ultimately resulting in her termination. Michaelson admitted to using the strike as horseplay with other trainees. He was reprimanded and demoted in March 2010 for his participation in such conduct. Taysom filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and wrongful termination, highlighting the misconduct and inadequate response by the department.
