Officer Peterson was one of five officers who fired lethal rounds during the July 2, 2019, standoff with Isak Aden, resulting in Aden’s death. The incident led to a lawsuit alleging excessive use of force. In February 2025, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the officers qualified immunity, reversing a previous denial.
