In August 2021, Deputy Trotter used a Taser on a 17-year-old autistic boy, Aaron Vasquez, 17 times in less than 10 minutes. The incident led to Trotter’s resignation, charges of misconduct and assault, and a pending lawsuit alleging gross negligence and recklessness. The lawsuit claims the Sheriff’s Office failed to properly direct and control Trotter’s actions.
