Officer James Compton was named in a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force and failure to provide medical care, leading to the wrongful death of Travis Banks in July 2021. The lawsuit claimed that Compton, along with other officers, was responsible for Banks’ death while in custody. The case was settled in January 2024 for an undisclosed amount.
