In 2021, an internal affairs investigation revealed that Deputy Johnson submitted false timesheets and received overtime pay for hours he did not work. GPS data from his patrol vehicle contradicted his reported hours. Johnson also took an unauthorized trip to Las Cruces in his patrol vehicle. He admitted to the falsified timesheets during his testimony. In March 2023, Johnson was found guilty of five felony counts related to receiving public money for services not rendered and faced up to 7.5 years in prison.
