Officer Jason Roberts resigned in 2017 after being suspended for five days and reassigned following his whistleblowing on the department’s handling of a domestic violence complaint against a prominent pastor who served as a police chaplain. Roberts leaked information to the media, leading to the pastor’s arrest. He later filed a lawsuit alleging retaliation and violation of his First Amendment rights, seeking damages for being out of a job.
