On June 1, 2023, Officer Jeffrey Pupilli, a 9-year member of the Terre Haute Police Department, arrived for his 3 p.m. shift in his patrol car while under the influence of alcohol. His breath-alcohol content was recorded as high as 0.60%, significantly above the legal limit of 0.08%. GPS data indicated that Pupilli had driven his squad car at speeds up to 93 mph prior to arriving at work. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person. Pupilli resigned from the department on June 21, 2023, effective immediately.
