Deputy Jeremy Grohs was terminated on July 21, 2014, by Sheriff Michael Cude for insubordination, refusal to follow a direct lawful order, and mishandling of evidence. The termination followed an incident where Grohs allegedly allowed a felony suspect to go free despite being directed to arrest him. Additionally, Grohs was accused of taking possession of an illegal controlled substance and leaving it unattended in his patrol vehicle for several hours. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation was requested to investigate the case concerning fraud, theft of sheriff’s funds, and other internal affairs within the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
