Twice faced major discipline: in 2014 he was nearly fired (ultimately given a 90-day suspension) over an off-duty drunken brawl at a fellow officer’s party that involved alleged ‘swinging’ and child neglect. In 2019, Ownbey again faced termination after he spent a July 2018 ride-along making lewd, sexually harassing remarks toward a female intern – including calling her a ‘whore’ and joking about her sex life – conduct that violated multiple department policies.
