In June 2024, Richland Police Officer Jeremy Rast was caught on video telling a group of Hispanic men to “go back to Mexico” and to “get the **** out of Richland.” He was fired for making these derogatory slurs. However, in January 2025, the Pearl Police Department hired Rast despite community outcry. Pearl’s police chief initially defended the decision, but by February 2025 the chief announced Rast did not complete the employment process and was no longer employed in Pearl.
