Deputy John Fowlkes was involved in a 2015 incident where he conducted a search of Hank Turknett’s property based on an affidavit that was later deemed overly broad and ambiguous. The search led to Turknett’s arrest and a three-day detention. The Circuit Court ruled that the search warrant was invalid, resulting in the suppression of all seized items except for a vehicle. Turknett filed a lawsuit alleging unreasonable search and seizure, cruel and unusual punishment, and failure to return property. The case was dismissed in 2019 due to the statute of limitations.
