On February 23, 2024, Officer John Gary Barton responded to a noise complaint at the residence of Twyla Stallworth. After Stallworth refused to provide identification within her own home, Barton allegedly assaulted her son, entered the home without consent, and arrested Stallworth on charges of obstruction, resisting arrest, and attempting to elude. The charges were later dropped, and the city issued an apology, acknowledging the officer’s mistake and stating that he had been disciplined for failing to know the law. Stallworth filed a lawsuit alleging unlawful arrest and assault, seeking unspecified damages.
