In January 2019, Captain John Mills was placed on administrative leave following an incident where he confronted a videographer filming outside the Suwannee County Jail. Mills instructed the individual to stop filming, citing security concerns, and issued a verbal trespass warning. The encounter was captured on video and led to an internal affairs investigation ordered by Sheriff Sam St. John. Mills has served with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office for over 20 years and oversees the jail operations as captain.
