In January 2021, Officer John Murphy conducted a traffic stop where he allegedly used excessive force against Anthony Wynn, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Murphy demanded Wynn’s identification, and upon his refusal, forcibly removed him from the car, resulting in a dislocated shoulder for Wynn. A lawsuit was filed against Murphy and the City of Covington, alleging civil rights violations through excessive force. The Covington Police Department declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.
