In June 2016, Jail Officer John Robert Markus was charged with first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of inmate Anthony Huff. Huff died after being restrained in a chair for 54 hours. Markus was accused of treating Huff in a cruel and inhumane manner and violating jail standards.
