In April 2018, Officer Jonathan A. Freitag conducted a pretextual traffic stop on Elon Wilson, a former D.C. firefighter, leading to Wilson’s wrongful conviction and nearly two years in prison. Internal investigations revealed Freitag’s pattern of falsifying reports and conducting improper stops. Fairfax County prosecutors dismissed numerous cases associated with Freitag’s misconduct. Freitag resigned in May 2020 amid ongoing criminal investigations.
