In 2013, Officer Jonathan Shadwrick was implicated in a lawsuit filed by former inmate Patton, who alleged that Shadwrick exhibited deliberate indifference by placing him in a holding cell with a known violent inmate, Reyes, despite Patton’s requests for segregation due to his status as a corrections officer. Patton was subsequently assaulted by Reyes, resulting in serious injuries. The court found that a reasonable jury could conclude that Shadwrick acted with deliberate indifference in placing Patton in the cell, allowing the claim to proceed.
