Create And Track Police Department History

On May 20, 2011, Officer Joseph Lawlor participated in a high-speed chase of a suspect who failed to stop at a traffic signal. After the suspect was apprehended in Beardsley Park and effectively incapacitated by a Taser, Lawlor kicked the individual several times. He pleaded guilty to violating the individual’s civil rights by using unreasonable force and was sentenced to three months of imprisonment and six months of supervised release. Lawlor resigned from the Bridgeport Police Department as part of his plea agreement.
