    In April 2021, Deputy Josh Benefield was arrested and charged with three counts of simple battery following an investigation into unjustified use of force at the Beauregard Parish Jail. The investigation revealed that Benefield sprayed one inmate with a chemical agent and tased another inmate twice without cause. Both Benefield and another deputy involved were terminated for violating department policies. Benefield was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail and later released on bail.
