In March 2023, Officer Joshua Gena initiated a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle without proper communication with a supervisor, leading to a dangerous chase that reached speeds up to 93 mph. The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle struck and killed two innocent bystanders, Jake Monteer and Jessica Fields. A lawsuit filed by Monteer’s family alleges negligence and failure to adhere to pursuit policies on Gena’s part.
