    In September 2023, Deputy Joshua Lafleur resigned amid a Louisiana State Police investigation into inmate abuse at the parish jail. Video footage surfaced showing Lafleur punching a handcuffed inmate and pepper-spraying another man who was seated. These incidents occurred prior to Sheriff Charles Guillory’s tenure, which began in 2020. Lafleur was placed on administrative leave without pay before his resignation. The investigation into these abuses is ongoing.
