    In January 2024, a lawsuit was filed against the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and several officers, including Deputy Justin Maness, alleging violations of civil rights under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. The plaintiff, Lester Nicholson, claimed misconduct related to prison conditions. The case, Nicholson v. Oconee County Sheriff’s Office et al., is ongoing in the US District Court for the District of South Carolina.
