In July 2018, Officer Justin Strickland arrested Elijah David McJunkin for filing a false police report. McJunkin, a volunteer firefighter and medical technician, alleged that the arrest was wrongful and led to the loss of his opportunity for full-time employment with Horry County Fire and Rescue. The charge against McJunkin was eventually dismissed. Subsequently, McJunkin filed a lawsuit against the City of Conway and its police department, claiming malicious prosecution, false arrest, and negligence in training and supervision of officers. The lawsuit sought an unspecified amount in damages.
