On December 12, 2014, while serving as a corrections officer, LaChance failed to notify the medical department or log that an inmate, Dana Kitchin, was requesting medical attention. Kitchin died from a ruptured spleen after pleading for help for several hours. LaChance received a written reprimand for his inaction.
