Former Undersheriff Kendall Morgan pleaded guilty on November 8, 2022, to a federal civil rights violation for using excessive force. On January 25, 2017, Morgan repeatedly struck a handcuffed individual, identified as D.P., who was not resisting arrest, resulting in bodily injury. Morgan was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment and 36 months of supervised release. Additionally, in October 2019, a federal jury awarded $4 million to Chad Osterhout, who alleged that in June 2015, Morgan assaulted him during a traffic stop, causing severe injuries including a broken nose and shattered orbital socket. Morgan resigned from the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office in August 2018.
