In May 2021, former deputy Kenny Perkins was sued in federal court by Gary Shannon Robertson, alleging excessive force during a May 8, 2020 incident. Robertson claimed Perkins tased him twice without warning, tackled him, and struck him in the head, causing severe injuries. The lawsuit also named Sheriff Derek Polston for failing to intervene. Robertson sought damages exceeding $100,000.

In March 2021, Rebecca England filed a federal lawsuit against former deputy Kenny Perkins and other officers, alleging multiple instances of misconduct between June 2019 and February 2021. England accused Perkins of sexual assault during a June 2019 arrest and claimed he conducted illegal searches and seizures. The lawsuit sought monetary damages for violations of constitutional rights.
