Sheriff Kevin Joyce was named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed in 2020 by an inmate who alleged that her constitutional rights were violated when two male officers remained in her hospital room during childbirth in February 2019. The case resulted in a $350,000 settlement in January 2025. Following the incident, Joyce implemented additional training and checklists to prevent future violations.
