Officer Kevin Schlieben was involved in the July 1, 2019, arrest of Rashad Robinson, during which Schlieben struck Robinson after he was handcuffed. This incident led to Schlieben being charged with third-degree assault and battery. The charge was dismissed in March 2021 after a judge threw out the arrest warrant. Robinson filed a civil lawsuit against the Charleston Police Department, alleging negligence, false arrest, and assault and battery.
