Sheriff Kieran Donahue was accused of retaliating against employees who supported his opponent in the 2020 Republican primary election. Deputies Michael Teeter and Cecil ‘Trey’ Ramsey alleged they were fired in June 2020 after campaigning for Donahue’s opponent, Nick Schlader. They filed a lawsuit claiming violation of their free speech rights, which was settled in August 2022 with a $600,000 payment by Canyon County.
