On April 20, 2019, Officer Layau Eulizier Jr. fatally shot Anthony Jose Vega Cruz during a traffic stop. The incident led to a lawsuit filed by Vega Cruz’s family in February 2021, alleging violations of constitutional rights and racial profiling. Eulizier was cleared of wrongdoing by the state’s attorney but resigned from the force in 2020. The lawsuit is ongoing.
